How The Blended Learning Format for First Aid/CPR Training works

Designed with the same knowledge and skills as our traditional classroom courses, blended learning combines online learning with an in-person skills session, which includes practice and a skill assessment.

Benefits Include:

  • Individualized, self-paced learning
  • Accommodates individual learning styles and allows participants to learn at their own pace
  • Participants can stop and review training whenever necessary
  • Convenient access and consistent delivery
  • Allows course takers to access training at their convenience 24/7 from any computer with internet access
  • Helps ensure consistent delivery of training content among all students
  • Easy, online refresh of skills

Course takers are given access to the online content for the period of certification and may log on as needed to reference content or refresh their knowledge

Online Session Details:

The blended learning online session offers students a variety of elements to learn program content including videos, lesson narration and special features. In addition, interactive learning experiences include:

  • Drag-and-drop exercises
  • Enhanced learning options including Quick Checks and Fast Facts for students who want to learn more
  • Lesson reviews and quizzes
  • Students must pass the assessment at the end of the online session in order to move on to the in-person session.

In-Person Session Details:

Led by an Canadian Red Cross Instructor

To successfully complete a blended learning first aid and CPR/AED course, the participant must:

  • Successfully complete the final assessment in the online session and print the certificate of completion (a copy must be left with the DLC Training).
  • Attend and participate in the skill practice and assessment session within 4 weeks of completing the online component. If a participant does not attend a classroom session within this timeframe, they are required to purchase a second PIN and retake the online component before being admitted into the classroom. Demonstrate competency in all required in-person skills.

Upon successful completion of blended learning online and in-person sessions, course takers receive the same three-year certifications as course takers of traditional classroom training.
